Apple vs Google (iOS vs Android) – a call for peace

This ‘debate’ IMHO is the biggest can of worms ever!  It used to be Mac vs PC and was nice… now it’s getting mean.

And Yes, I’m leaving Nokia/Symbian & Linux out of this mix, even if 2 of the OS’s are based of *nix code.  And for the MS fans, go back 5 years and change all references to Google in this article to Microsoft/Windows where applicable!

The ‘Fanboys’ of each all have their own opinion as to why their OS/hardware is the best.  Each will defend their choice and try to fend off attacks or prove to the other party why theirs is better, and yes, I have been/am in that party.  But you know what? I’m over it.

Yesterday at work, one of my colleagues who is ‘Apple’ obsessed, came over whilst I was sitting eating my lunch to tell me I was ‘hurting my eyes’ looking at my trusty Asus Transformer (T101).  Now I retaliated (He was comparing mine to his 2 day old ‘new iPad’), stating that he was comparing technology which was a year and a half old to technology released last week.  I added “yes, but you can’t put widgets on your home screen”, to which he responded something along the lines of “that’s messy and isn’t clean like Apples philosophy”.  My response is what sums up me writing this “Well, I disagree with them”.  I was defending my choice.  Why should I have to defend my choice to others?

Just after, I told my wife about this exchange.  She asked a question about screen ratio in reference to watching widescreen movies (when I mentioned his comments re: screen).  With a quick Google to find the answer, I found an article (link).  The article is written by a self confessed “display junkie” who loves the resolution, then lists a ‘nagging problem’ of screen ratio (yes, the iPad’s screen ratio is 4:3).

What infuriated me more about this article (aside from the Android bashing) was the comments, which turned into a ‘poo slinging’ match of Apple vs Android.

The writer responds to a query about what can I do on an iPad that I can’t do on an Android.  The response “Yah you’re not missing out on anything… except hundreds of thousands of apps”.  Granted, more choice can be good… and confusing.

I propose an action to those on and off the internet.  Peace!

So ‘Offline’, if you are a fan of Apple, don’t get in the faces of those who use Android unless they ask you a question about your device AND if you are a fan of Android, don’t get in the face of those who are fans of Apple.  UNLESS you have something that legitimately might be of interest to the other party.  Yes your phone is nice and you want to show it off.. just don’t force it in the face of someone on your ‘dark side’ unless they ask to see it.

‘Online’, if an article is written by a reviewer who obviously comes off as a ‘fanboy’ of one and even has a dig at the other, don’t comment on their post!  If you do, it means they have succeeded in what they wanted to accomplish! (and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, a song called “The Critic”, performed by Toby Keith sums it up: It show how if a writer wants to know how many people are reading an article, be negative about something and then see how big of a response you get.)

Am I the only one who’s feels this way?  Please no ‘poo slinging’ comments.. ;)

New Song – Back Then

“Back then” in February 2010, I had the great idea of trying to complete the RPM Challenge.  The first day  of the challenge, I wrote a song called ‘Back Then’.  Me being me, worked on that song but a few days later realised that working full time and with family commitments, I couldn’t complete an album in a month.  So I delayed the album making goal to reduce my stress levels and the song just sat there.

About a month ago, I sat down to re-recorded this song as I want to work on rebuild my recording ‘chops’ for a project I’m starting VERY soon!  Time still escaped me with this song.  I had exactly a 1 month break in the middle of this song.  The vocal I will probably never by happy with, but I’m satisfied with this version.

So I now present to you, “Back Then”…

Lyrics:

Back Then

Reading my notebook, from the Summer of ‘92.
I had to laugh at all the things I thought I knew.
What words would I write with that pen?
If I had the chance to, go back again.

Back then,
I didn’t pay the rent.
Back then,
I didn’t make what I spent.
I’ve got my parents to thank for that
And they know one day that I’ll probably pay them back.
But if only… I knew then what I know now.

I had a girlfriend who I hardly knew,
I wrote her letters every day which ended I love you.
Giving those words away so freely then,
they didn’t mean anything in the end.

But back then
I didn’t pay any bills.
Back then
I’d always get my fills.
I did some stupid things, I will say that,
even a few times I wore my dunce hat,
But if only… I knew then what I know now

But back then,
I didn’t have a child.
Back then,
I could go out and be wild.
All the speed humps that got in the way,
they taught me and shaped me in to the man I am today,
Cause now, I know more than I knew then..

I know more than I knew then,
I know more than I knew then,
I know more than I knew then.

Taking photos of the Moon

Sydney’s Dust Storm 2 years ago

As the dust cloud rolled over Sydney this afternoon I was trying to work out where it was from… so, I fired up Google and quickly realised that it was 2 years ago to the day that we awoke to one of the heaviest dust storms Sydney ever experienced.  I took this photo that morning.  If felt like you were on Mars!

Last nights sunset, channelling Tatooine (photo)

I took a photo of the Sunset from my office last night.  Taken through double glazed glass, for a split second (images taken either side of this didn’t have this effect), an illusion of the setting suns on Tatooine was created.  The image has only been resized, no ‘gimping’ (aka photoshopping).
